Construction is moving along at a brisk pace. The foundations and the concrete slabs are completed as is the lower wall framing. The Second/Main floor framing is nearly complete and the second floor wall framing is 20% complete. Off-site road works are in progress and the site rough grading on the south end of building is complete.

Friday, May 30 Film Night and Potluck

Join us for our monthly potluck at 6:00 PM at the Unitarian Hall, 595 Townsite Road in Nanaimo – meet the owners and find out more about Pacific Gardens. Please bring food to share.

We will be showing the award-winning documentary "Voices of Cohousing; Building Small Villages in the City" by Matthieu Lietaert.

Pioneers in some of the very first cohousing projects in Denmark, Sweden and Holland are interviewed and the film looks at the historical roots, common spaces, sharing dinners, decision-making, plus the advantages for children, parents, and elders.

Some comments about the film: "This is an attractive film that tells the story of the modern cohousing movement through the voices of people in Scandinavia and northern Europe….It is accessible, clear well-structured and should be of great interest….The many advantages of cohousing life – a strong sense of community, a great place to bring up kids and to grow old, working towards having a lower footprint – are well covered and illustrated. This film is a little gem of simple storytelling."

3-Bedroom-plus-den Units

Do you have boomerang kids? Need space for a home office? Like to have lots of company? Wish you had room for a granny flat?

Then our three-bedroom-and-den units are the perfect size for you! With more than 1500 square feet on two floors, these units have two bedrooms and full bath on the lower floor, and one bedroom, den, bath, kitchen and living-dining room on the top floor.  They can be easily configured to provide separate work-living spaces to ensure privacy for you, your guests, your elderly parents, or your kids. But hurry – we have only five of them!

Now that Pacific Gardens is full steam ahead on construction and the building is beginning to take shape, enquiries about the project have really skyrocketed. Out of 25 units, only 9 are still available.

Construction and Open House Celebration

On Wednesday, May 7 we held a celebration to mark the completion of the foundation and the receipt of our full Building Permit. More than 30 people joined us for a ceremony at the property and refreshments in our office in Port Place Mall. We expect the next big festivity to take place upon completion of the building – what a celebration that will be!

Pacific Gardens Cohousing in the News!

We’ve been in the news frequently lately with newspaper articles about our Construction Celebration and a recent TV segment on Shaw that highlighted Pacific Gardens. Several owners were interviewed on site and the video included footage of the property and building.
