The building is beautiful and bright and it is easy to visualize the joys and possibilities of living here. We are located at 347 Seventh Street in Nanaimo. Signs will direct you to the show suite once you are on site.
With the show suite open, we will terminate our weekly Open House and Site Tour that take place on Thursdays. Our last one will take place on Thursday, June 11 beginning at 2:30 from our office in Port Place Mall.
If you are visiting from out-of-town and can’t make it on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, we’d be happy to arrange another time to take you on a tour. Please let us know as far in advance as possible.
Great Mortgage Rates
Canadian Western Bank is offering great mortgages at 3.75% for five years to folks at Pacific Gardens. With rates this low, home ownership with us is very attractive.
Co-ownership at Pacific Gardens
If you’re renting, sharing or living at home because you feel that you cannot afford to buy, then think again. What started out as an idea has grown into a movement – the co-buyer revolution is here. Many people have decided to do something about it. By teaming up with others they have discovered that they can double or even triple their budget, halve their costs and own years sooner than they could alone.
Basically, co-buying is a little like rental home-sharing. The main difference is that instead of spending money paying off someone else’s mortgage, you are contributing to your own.
There are compelling reasons for wanting to co-own a cohousing unit at Pacific Gardens. A partner can provide companionship (you need not come home to an empty place), convenience (you’ll have someone to look out for your place, pets and mail when you’re away), and affordability (you’ll split the cost of the unit and the living expenses). Many people don’t want to purchase a cohousing unit with someone until they know whether they are compatible with that person.
When it comes to finding a great cohousing partner, keep in mind that compatibility is more important than likeability. Good friends don’t always translate into good roommates. Sharing a cohousing unit can prove to be a positive experience, but only if you first check to make sure you will make good living mates.
Pacific Gardens has designed a questionnaire that should be helpful as a first step for those exploring co-ownership. We also maintain a list of people who have expressed an interest in buying with a partner.
Contact John Carver at 250-716-0930 or email jcarver@islandnet.com if you’d like more information or a copy of the questionnaire.
VanCity offers a co-ownership checklist on what they term “mixer mortgages.” It can be viewed by clicking here.
